Speaking the Truth in Love

How Moms Can Stand Firm in Faith While Showing Compassion

As Christian moms, we’re often faced with the challenge of teaching our children what is right and true in a world that sometimes feels upside down. The Bible calls us to speak the truth in love, but what does that really mean, especially when the world around us often doesn’t see things the same way we do?

Let’s start with a simple but powerful truth: God loves everyone, but He doesn’t love everything.

This is an important distinction to make, especially when we’re trying to teach our children about love and truth. It’s easy to fall into the trap of thinking that well…. if God loves everyone, then everything people do must be okay. But that’s not what the Bible teaches.

Charles Spurgeon once said, “You cannot love God without hating what He hates.” This may sound harsh, but it’s essential to understand. Loving someone doesn’t mean approving of everything they do.

Real love seeks the best for others, even when that means confronting uncomfortable truths.

How to Speak the Truth in Love

  • Start with Compassion: Before you dive into a difficult conversation, start by showing genuine care for the person you’re talking to. This doesn’t mean you have to agree with everything they say or do, but it does mean that you should approach the conversation with kindness and understanding.

You might say something like, “I care about you and want what’s best for you. Can I share something that’s on my heart?”

  • Use Gentle Words: When speaking the truth, it’s important to choose your words carefully. The goal is not to win an argument but to lovingly guide someone toward the truth.

For example, if you’re discussing a challenging topic like same-sex relationships or other moral issues, you could say, “I believe that God’s design for marriage is between one man and one woman. I know this might be hard to hear, but I care about you, and I want to be honest about my beliefs.”

  • Build Relationships First: Jesus often started with relationships before sharing difficult truths. He spent time with people, showed them love, and met their needs before addressing their sins. We should follow His example by building relationships first. This doesn’t mean avoiding tough topics. But it does mean earning the right to be heard by showing genuine care and concern for the person.

  • Ask Permission to Share: Sometimes, the best way to start a difficult conversation is by asking if it’s okay to share your thoughts.

You could say, “I’ve been thinking a lot about what we talked about the other day. Would it be okay if I shared my perspective?” If the person is open to hearing what you have to say, they’re more likely to listen and consider your words.

  • Be Patient and Persistent: Speaking the truth in love is not always a one-time conversation. It might take time for the other person to understand or accept what you’re saying. Be patient, and be willing to walk alongside them, even if it takes longer than you expect.

Action Steps for Moms

  1. Model It: Show your kids how to speak the truth in love by doing it yourself. Whether it’s in conversations with friends, family, or even online, let your children see you stand firm in your faith while being kind and compassionate.

  1. Teach It: Help your kids understand the difference between loving someone and approving of everything they do. Use simple language and real-life examples to make it relatable.

  1. Pray Together: Make prayer a regular part of your family life. Pray for wisdom, for the courage to speak the truth in love, and for the people you interact with to have open hearts and minds.

In a world that’s often confused about what’s right and wrong, it’s more important than ever to stand firm in the truth while showing love and compassion. By doing this, we not only honor God, but we also set an example for our children to follow.

So, lil’ mumma, speaking the truth in love isn’t just about what we say—it’s about how we live.

Building a Spiritually Strong Home

Building a Spiritually Strong Home 2240 1260 Mona Corwin

4 Simple Tips for Busy Moms

As a busy mom, it can feel overwhelming to keep your family on track spiritually while juggling the endless tasks of daily life. But I’m here to tell you, lil’ mumma, that building a spiritually strong home doesn’t have to be complicated. With a few intentional practices, you can nurture your family’s faith and strengthen your bond with each other and with God.

Here are some simple tips to help you create a spiritually strong home, even when life gets busy.

1. Schedule Time for God and Family

I know scheduling things sounds so boring and mundane, but life as a mom is full of demands. From the moment you wake up to the moment you fall into bed, there’s always something that needs your attention. That’s why it’s important to schedule your time intentionally.

Start by using a planner or calendar to block out your day. Include time for your personal relationship with God. This could be in the early morning, during your lunch break, or after the kids go to bed. Set aside even 10-15 minutes each day to pray, read your Bible, and reflect. This time will help you recharge spiritually and set a positive tone for your day.

Also, make sure to schedule time for your spouse and family. This can include regular date nights, family dinners, or even a weekend outing. Prioritizing these relationships is key to building a strong, loving home.

2. Use Dinner Time as Teaching and Connection Time

Dinner time is a perfect opportunity to connect as a family. In today’s busy world, it’s easy to let this time slip away, but it’s worth the effort to make it a regular part of your routine.

Start by making dinner together whenever possible. Involve the kids in simple tasks like setting the table or helping with meal prep. As you eat, use this time to talk about your day and share what you’re thankful for. This not only builds connection but also creates a habit of gratitude.

Dinner time is also a great chance to teach your children about God’s word. Share a Bible verse or a simple story from the Bible and discuss what it means. Ask open-ended questions that encourage your kids to think about how they can apply these lessons in their lives. It doesn’t have to be formal—just a natural part of your conversation.

3. Make Time for Your Own Spiritual Growth

As moms, we tend to put everyone else’s needs before our own. But to lead your family spiritually, you have to make time for your own growth.

Have you considered joining a Bible study group or finding a devotional that resonates with you? Listen to faith-based podcasts, like the MLU podcast, or read books that inspire you. Surround yourself with a community of other moms who share your faith and can support you on your journey.

Remember, you can’t pour from an empty cup

By nurturing your own spiritual life, you’ll be better equipped to guide and support your family.

4. Keep It Simple and Consistent

Building a spiritually strong home doesn’t require grand gestures or perfect routines. What matters most is consistency and authenticity. Keep your spiritual practices simple and achievable

Whether it’s a quick prayer before bed, a verse of the day, or a family worship night once a week, find what works for your family and stick with it.

Your kids will learn from your example, and over time, these small, consistent actions will lay a strong spiritual foundation for your home.

Being a busy mom doesn’t mean you have to sacrifice your family’s spiritual growth. By being intentional, you can build a home that’s not just busy, but spiritually strong.

The small, consistent efforts will make a huge difference in the long run. You got this mumma!

Hugs,

Mona

The Power in Being There For The Transitional Times

The Power in Being There For The Transitional Times 2240 1260 Mona Corwin

Transitions can be some of the most challenging times for our kids. Whether it’s waking up in the morning, getting picked up from school, or winding down at bedtime, these moments often bring out big emotions and struggles.

But why? The common thread is that these are all transitionstimes when your child has to shift from one setting or activity to another. And switching gears isn’t easy!

Imagine how it feels to move from the comfort of your bed to bright sunlight and the rush of the morning routine. Or consider the emotional release after holding it all together at school. Now, with you, they feel safe enough to let it out. And after the excitement of playing after dinner, the thought of settling down for bed can seem like a huge leap.

In all these moments, your babies need your guidance. They need your help to navigate the change and learn how to transition smoothly from one part of the day to the next. By understanding the challenges they face and being present with them, you can make these times a little easier and help them develop the skills to handle transitions well.

Since it’s back-to-school season, I want to let you in on a little secret that I’ve learned over the years….I know the excitement of the new school year can be overwhelming, but there’s one thing that I’ve never really enjoyed—and maybe you feel the same way. Yep, I’m talking about the carpool line. It’s chaotic, time-consuming, and sometimes downright frustrating. But let me tell you why sticking it out is more than worth it.

I know, I know… I used to dread carpool too. I would sit there with my coffee, feeling impatient as the cars inched forward, dealing with drivers cutting in line. It was a real test of my patience. But despite all that, I did it—and now, I’m glad I did.

Because what I didn’t realize at the time was that picking up my kids wasn’t just about transporting them from school to home. It was about the magic of those in-between moments, those transitional times.

The car ride home is a special time when your kids transition from their busy school day to the comfort of home. Your car becomes a little sanctuary where your children can unload their day, share stories, and express their emotions. They come from a world of constant stimulation and walk into your space, ready to reconnect. That small window of time is priceless. Even if you’re heading straight to another activity, that initial moment with you sets the tone.

Your kids hop into the car, bubbling over with stories, eager to tell you everything that happened. They’re excited, waving their papers around, or maybe they’re a little down because something didn’t go right. Either way, you’re there, right when they need someone to listen. It’s during these car rides that you get to be their sounding board, their comfort, and their biggest fan. It’s your chance to help them regulate their emotionswhether it’s celebrating their wins or soothing their hurts.

Think of it like this: when kids come to you after a long day, they’re looking for a place to be seen, heard, and supported. They’re learning how to process their feelings in a safe space.

This is especially important on tough days when they might feel lonely, upset, or confused. Your presence in those moments teaches them how to handle their emotions and face the world with resilience.

Even if carpool isn’t your favorite part of the day, remember that it’s more than just a mundane task that we as mummas have to do. It’s a daily opportunity to connect with your kids, to help them deal with their emotions, and to be that constant, reassuring presence in their lives.

It’s truly a holy moment. It’s not always glamorous, but it’s one of the countless little things that make a big difference in your child’s world.

So hang in there, mumma—you’re doing an amazing job, one carpool line at a time.
